You give the press credit it does not deserve in asserting that the debate moderator would be able to control Kari Lake. Kari Lake regularly talks over the members of the press and she would do the same to whoever was named the moderator. Debates are just fodder for tweets and soundbites. Now Kari Lake will just get time to create soundbites by herself. Maybe Hobbs should have immediately said she would not debate but maybe she hoped there would be a compromise. In the end what matters is not whether Hobbs is able to manage Lake any better than members of the press but the policies of each candidate. Lake is a promoter of the Big Lie, supporter of school vouchers and against the rights of privacy and abortion. Hobbs is pro abortion, pro public schools will accept election outcomes and will address climate change and water issues. Whether she “debates” Lake is irrelevant to the choice voters have to make so give your outrage a rest.

Hobbs refusal to debate Lake under the current debate format is the correct one. The public is not informed by the candidates talking over one another and name calling and changing the debate question into one of their talking pints. Nobody wins.
