Any city, town or county in Arizona that fails to fully cooperate with ICE is in violation of state law and will lose its share of state revenue.

SB1070, which passed into law, says:

“No official or agency of this state or a county, city, town or other political subdivision of this state may adopt a policy that limits or restricts the enforcement of federal immigration laws to less than the full extent permitted by federal law.”

Read it and weep….

Do you know what happens if it's not law enforcement, like a city council passing a zoning ordinance that blocks a new ICE detention center? Would that violate SB1070?

Absolutely. It applies to any law, policy, rule, regulation, and similar directive.

Probably the most controversial law passed in Arizona. One of the reasons Maricopa Sheriff’s office has been under federal watch costing millions of tax payer dollars. Thanks for reminding us of the racism that goes on in the Arizona legislature and the bill Jan Brewer signed. Made all the news all over the country. Welcome to the most racist state in the union. April 23, 2010. Much of it was deemed illegal by the Supreme Court. Not as visible as losing the Super Bowl when Mecham refused to uphold Martin Luther King Jr. birthday but what the hell. Racism reigns.

The most important parts of SB1070 survived. Those parts being a ban on sanctuary cities, the requirement for law enforcement to inquire when reasonable suspicion of legal presence is there, and the requirement to cooperate to the fullest extent possible in federal immigration enforcement.

It’s arbitrary and vague. So that works.

Read it and weep??! What is wrong with you? Are you basically saying you are just fine with ICE going into cities at random and in most cases, arresting and holding legal US citizens or documented workers who are no threat to the public in confinement WITHOUT even being charged with a crime, and abuse of their legal justifications and rights?!! They are solely being arrested on pure "assumptions" or racial profiling. Is this what you want to happen here?! Typical Republican Trump lover as usual.

If you believe that that is the reality, stop watching MSNBC. They are going after people here illegally, prioritizing criminals and prior deportees.

As with regular law enforcement, mistakes are made but we don’t eliminate the police. - well, maybe some loony Dems want to.

The immigration law is the law. Change it, if you don’t like it but don’t demonize those doing their jobs and who are enforcing OUR democratically passed laws.

Tell that to Donald J. Trump. He has broken the law on many occasions and since our Congress is seemingly, never in session and shaking in their boots, he has no oversight. One example is deploying troops to American cities. At this point, I’m wondering of our Governor, AG, SOS shouldn’t just break the law and get sued. Honestly, that seems to be what the Feds are doing. Being an immigration hawk, which is your right, does not give anyone the right to forego DUE PROCESS. BTW, I’ll watch any damn show I want to that includes Fox and reading the Wall Street Journal. You might try broadening your view of what’s happening outside Fountain Hills.

What’s MSNBC?? And everything you just said is not even in the ballpark of what I said, and your fiction analysis is bat shit crazy. Your absolutely delusional and misinformed if you think they are “prioritizing” criminals and deportees. Stop watching NewsMax and FauxNews as they got you brainwashed.

But is ICE enforcing federal immigration laws by ramming into someone’s car, taking them without cause, separating families at schools, not showing ID, no warrants? We are a nation of laws but what is happening in many instances sounds more like rounding up Jews in Germany late 1930’s and 40’s. I know that last sentence was harsh but just making my point while weeping. I was in Israel in 2016 and was rattled by the automatic rifles all over Jerusalem. Their history was and is traumatic and violent. Is ours?

See my reply above and comparing ICE to Nazis is absurd.

By the way, should we waive incarceration for criminals with families to avoid separation?

Not when they err but it is rare. Also, if sanctuary states allowed ICE to screen arrestees and prisoners upon their release in a safe controlled jail environment, you wouldn’t have as many street confrontations.

Could Hobbs deploy the Az National Guard for something specific before Trump can get his bloody hands on them? By bloody I mean all the people, human beings, who have died in ICE custody. I don’t believe their numbers. I have a dear friend with kidney disease who is of Mexican decent, born in Sacramento, he has dialysis 3 times a week to keep him alive. Medicare. Stopped by cops. Fortunately let go. He’s just one ICE agent away.
