Not to worry! The next time the AZGOP loses an election--whether it's for Tucson city council or for governor of the state--they will scream "fraud." Their idea of democracy is "heads I win, tails you lose."

To add to your footnote: or as long as we don't think about the other reason that our Election results come out more slowly than Florida's is that our Federal elections are much closer here than they are in Florida (in recent years) - even in Florida it takes a while to count every single vote, but if someone wins by a lot the AP and other organizations will call it.

What’s not to like about closing schools for elections?? Schools are mandated to provide a set number of days and hours of instruction every year. If you close for a day, you have to add that day. And a district is likely to have some schools that provide space for voting and others that don’t. Under this policy you’d have to change bus schedules, cafeteria schedules ( some schools have the kitchens for the whole district), etc.

Not enough $$ for school safety plans and monitoring those plans? But, oh, let’s just close a school whenever we need the space for in person voting—inconveniencing students, parents, childcare providers, school staff, etc. One more example of not understanding the full impact of public schools on everyone.

There will never be a “silver lining” with anything Trump. Everything he has said and done for his entire life is a lie, a grift or a steal. Our society will devolve even further as he takes over and looses his “comrades” in Congress to devastate our justice system. He’s also had a lot of help from American citizens who have never understood their civic responsibilities, and who have failed to grasp the gravity of how this onslaught of lawlessness will change our, their, and their children’s lives forever. This was not a “one-upmanship” game between Republicans and Democrats; this was/is a fight for our freedoms.

Hey editors you missed badly on the election bills. Senate Bill 1011, is supported by both sides of the aisle and will, if enacted, result in final results on election night. By requiring mail-in ballots to arrive for processing much earlier and no same-day drop offs.

I'm rather concerned that as a paid subscriber I'm being asked to subscribe to more content as you divide up your coverage of topics, such as water and education, that I thought would be included in the original subscription. Many of us want to support local journalism, but now there are so many newsletters coming out I have to make hard decisions about what I can afford. Are you on the correct path by dividing up your content so that there may be less value in your original newsletter?

I liked many comments below. “Silver lining” there will be no crazy only if Republicans win. Makes my head explode. Don’t forget crazy Kari, now she’s bringing the crazy to Ohio. Mandating closing schools for the day. Maybe only schools that get ESA’s. Teach those little homeschoolers how democracy works. They can get off their dirt bikes for a day. The comments by Barbara Q are valid and correct. Also what should be included in the bill, reimburse every school for ANY damage to the gym floors (resurfacing a gym floor is expensive), clean up expense, booster club reimbursement (November is the start of basketball). Think it through, my new mantra.

I'm blown away by the fact that the Republicans are cool with the fact that whoever screwed with the 2020 election and got away with it (and completely got away with it– nobody has a shred of evidence who or how they did it) think that the few minor random reforms they put in since were so effective that the cabal (and Putin, by the way) decided that it would be too risky this time, instead they would trust the integrity of the American Voter to make the call this time.

When the Mafia, Cartels, Cabals, or Conspiracies get away with a crime like 2020, a wholesale disenfranchisement of the American voters voice that resulted in absolutely zero repercussions for the perpetrators, they never sit back and say, "Whew– That was close, they almost caught us! Better not try that again..."

Putin was the only one to be caught in 2020, and he made damn sure he wasn't going to get caught this time.

From 1/15 Education Agenda

Republican Rep. Alexander Kolodin sponsored House Bill 2187, which would limit state university presidents’ salaries to 20 times that of a state lawmaker.

Wait. I thought that Republicans believed in the free market to set prices. Oh, right. That was the old Republican party. Never mind.

After all of the histrionics and whining the Republicans put us through and the money they spent on an audit, now everything is okey dokey with the exception of the speed of election results? The hypocrisy is breathtaking.

Schweikert wouldn't know an "adult" from an adenoid. Candy Biggs is running for Governor. The comedy skits write themselves. The midterms will be here in the blink of an eye. Plenty of wishy-washy Independents could vote blue after nearly two years of more chaos. Job one: Ditch the Electoral College.
