Are you guys going to have any upcoming trainings on how to use Skywolf or other legislative tracking software? I missed the training in September but would love to attend another.
I spent about $600 on mums and pumpkins for my front stoop and guess what? It's delightful.
Also strangely meditative - laying in a corn crib at the many pumpkin patches we have here in NC while my children pour corn on my head. If you don't think about the likely pee, flu, and snot covering every kernel it's almost like a spa day!
Walking my dogs…any time I’m outside away from screens, I’m in my happy place. Playing with the grandkids ALWAYS keeps me in the present & makes me hopeful for the future. Impossible to be depressed when you’re rolling down a hill with a 2 year old!
I attended a little league game of 5-6 year olds. It was so much fun. Laugh your ass off. You can find one at any of the fields, of the many parks, on a Saturday morning. I happened to know 2 of the boys playing, their dad is the coach and my sons friend from elementary school. It’s a family affair. That’s the top of the sandwich. My son and daughter in law were going to San Diego with a stop in Yuma. Friend says, you should go over to Mexicali for some great Mexican food. My son says, “we’d love to but I’m not sure they’ll let my wife back in.” She was born in Mexico, adopted as an infant and is a U.S. citizen, we all laughed, heads shaking, sadly. That’s the meat, other slice. My kids got a puppy and I get to babysit while they’re gone.
Have been keeping a gratitude journal for years, and I avoid over-exposure to news. I rely on the pleasures of having a 17+year old cat be part of our lives. SO APPRECiATE the work of Az Agenda for your succinct, insightful coverage, even when the news dumbfounds/bewilders/frustrates/depresses/angers me! THANK YOU!
I’m a knitter, and I also attend protests at car dealerships and Ciscomani’s office. I called his office this morning and the recording said that they were closed due to the shutdown.
My distractions: My lettuce and radish plants have already sprouted, and on Saturday we went for a drive and picnic up Mt. Lemmon to over 8,000 feet in elevation; we turned off MSNBC on Sirius XM satellite radio, opened the windows, breathed the magnificent air, enjoyed the forever views, did a little botanizing (photographing and identifying wildflowers), checked out the Control Road (gave up on driving down to Oracle because the road is still rough from the recent fire--and a tree had fallen across the road), did a little birdwatching, and picked up litter at two picnic areas.
I love the News Sandwich concept. Reminds me a little of Stephen Colbert's "Meanwhile" segments. Hope to see more of it.
By the way, speaking of good news, I love the idea of Taylor Swift in Congress. Now that would be refreshing! And think of the lyrics she'd get out of the experience. We can only hope.
And your mention of Rep. John Gillette makes me wonder anew how such a disgusting person can ever get elected to anything. Has he no sense of decency or reality in talking of hanging ... err, firing squad .... for someone he disagrees with politically? No wonder civil discourse is so vile with clowns like this supposedly representing us.
I’m sitting in my backyard reading this terrific Substack and feeling grateful. Our Democracy may be in peril, but it’s getting cooler in Phoenix. ☀️😎🌵
Re: Strawberries. I am learning to pay the snare drum. Requires focus, is physically challenging, and strangely meditative.
Sounds fun! Are you taking requests? If so, I suggest some Taylor Swift!

Yes -- i think we're doing a few later this month. Will let you know dates as they get closer!

Maybe I'm losing it?
I think you are NOT losing it...you are finding it.

Watching all the life emerging from our patch of desert after 2 1/2 inches of rain last weekend.
Resort to violence??? No! 🤬
Hiking or mountain biking in any of our desert mountain preserves is a great get-away from it all for me.
Look in your Funk & Wagnalls under "W" for Weasel...see picture of M. Johnson.
Like Joe - I garden. But not food...flowers. I'm getting ready to plant my spring garden soon so the seeds can germinate all winter.

I study the Bible and also watch clean comedy. The Bible gives me hope and clean comedy leaves me laughing which is good for the soul.

I got stuck on that road one time. Bad news if wet.
