I agree with the sentiment for Rachel & Hank. I also don't believe that anyone's life, liberty or pursuit of happiness is safe when the legislature is in session.
A friend who has since died and was one of my mentors as a political reporter decades ago used that line every year to end his first stand-up of each legislative session!
Another very informative column about how the various gears of state governance grind. Down here in the Old Pueblo our county board of supervisors is a generally tame affair compared to what goes on with the Maricopa board. I'm rather astonished that the much-maligned "Rinos" aka sane people grounded in reality have been able to retain their board majority. Are elections for those seats staggered? And is it likely that they will be able to keep these election-denying nutters at bay?
They're not staggered, but one was up this year because of a resignation. The rest were last elected in 2020, so the fallout came after they won. They'll be up for election in 2024, and I'd certainly expect to see lots of campaigning against them from within the Republican ranks. For the one that ran this year, Tom Galvin faced a couple election deniers who he bested. No idea what'll happen in '24.
Enjoy your time off. Soon the leg. Will be in session and none of us will be safe.

Many thanks for the reply, Rachel. Very interesting. Should be quite the spectacle going forward. Really has a lot of serious implications...
