Subscribed to the AZ Republic for years. The price keeps going up and the newspaper keeps shrinking. Now they have released most of their best columnists. I hate to stop subscribing because it will hasten the demise that I see coming. Maybe you could address the quandary.

I'm not a journalist, but I don't think that you are harming local journalism by cancelling your subscription to what is essentially Gannett. I keep my NYTimes script, but everything else is now going to local Substacks run by folks I trust.

I also increased my monthly give to NPR.

And honestly, I'd cancel NYTimes and move it to The Guardian, but you have to actually call them and I don't do phone calls.

I feel the same way. I have subscribed for several decades and with the buy outs of my favorite columnists I anticipate the paper will become a USA Today not local.

Same for me. I hang in there with gritted teeth just to marginally support lical, but it becomes more worthless every month. Fewer local stories, and they re run them to fill up space. And I don't understand how they get away with the charge for extras I don't want. Otoh, I am not a fan of substack (don't lile the interface) or the increasing atomization of news.

Hamedeh and the rest of the GOP/MAGA swine frothing at the mouth over Chump is sickening. I despise them all. I wish this was a bad dream.

-30- has long been used by journalists and PR professionals to designate the end of the copy used in an article, press release, etc. It’s usually placed in the middle at the bottom of the page after the last sentence of the copy.

The Agenda deserves a big pat on the back (and, yeah folks, some new subscribers) for leading the way toward justice for Abe Kwok. While the supplemental information you provided shows the situation is far from perfect, generating 600+ emails to the Gannett CEO got serious attention. It also gave him a reminder that even when under pressure, there is such a thing as compassion. Your readers get that. Maybe he will too now. Job well done, Agenda!

One of the people who opted for a Republic buyout, Mary Jo Pitzel's final story was about questionable dealing with a $1.25 federal grant for a summer science program. Just another example of how we all lose when dedicated journalists like her step away. She was always committed to getting the facts, wherever they lead.
