1) Kudos for drawing attention to the outstanding investigative report published yesterday by the AZ Republic. This entire episode is yet another reflection of how our institutions of higher learning have lost their way - and why so many of us recognize that drastic reform is the only hope of restoring balance to the system. Beyond that, I would like to know where the heck the Board of Regents was, as all this played out - holding the license carries a legal obligation of oversight, which does not appear to have occurred here, at all.

2) I think it is irresponsible to promote the app designed to facilitate evasion of ICE efforts to enforce the law (if you don’t like the law, you can lead a campaign to change the law - until then, lawbreakers are subject to arrest). The correct analogy, BTW, would be an app that alerts criminals to where (and when) law-enforcement is present, to facilitate property crimes and worse. Especially in light of the (now) many documented instances of criminal interference with ICE, and associated risks to law-enforcement personnel, I find it astonishing that anyone thinks this kind of activity is excusable.

I also have three dogs. Please, dogs owners - take your poop bags home.

It’s a smell that lingers even after the trash is picked up. It makes our pups unwelcome. Just do it.

Regarding Senator Ortiz’s question about how the legality of her revealing the location of federal officers who are enforcing immigration law and possibly even executing arrest warrents is different from somebody entering the location of a police car along the side of the road enforcing traffic laws, the former is an apparent violation of federal law, while the latter is a state enforcement matter with a higher bar for criminal liability.

Federal law makes it illegal to reveal the locations of federal enforcement officers with an intent to obstruct their investigation or protect suspects. That law is 18 USC 1512. It is also a violation of section 752 to aid the escape from immigration custody, which also includes those who may be in the process of being arrested. Both of these federal crimes carry multiple-year federal jail sentences, but less than Arizona’s legislative term limits.

It is also worth noting that the state law concerning obstructing government administration requires physical obstructing. However, the federal law does not require physical obstructing or even threats of violence. If the person is revealing the location of suspects or arrestees with an intent to obstruct their apprehension, that is enough under federal law to be guilty.

I hope that clarifies the situation for Senator Ortiz who may want to contact an attorney or at least cease and desist from what appears to be criminal behavior.

Obviously, that law was written before the horrible use of masked, unidentified (probably Proud Boys, One Persenters and other gangs) were hired to enforce draconian federal methods of rounding up people of color, believed to be immigrants. Just a thought from an event I went to last weekend. In a Catholic Church, in northern Arizona where a young Mexican American (we’re all Americans and I hate to have to differentiate) man had died. His family and friends filled the church along with, I guess we’ll call us people of no color, and many of us were scared to death ICE might show at the church or burial. That’s how chilling these mass deportations have become. Senator Kavanaugh I like and respect you but Donald Trump does not respect or follow the law, why should the rest of us? God Bless America.

Is it your position that lawbreakers should not be arrested? Then you are advocating anarchy. Consider what your thinking could lead to-no arrests based on political biases. Trump has followed the law on deportations. Is it possible ICE made some mistakes, yes. But Biden (we supposes) allowing 9 million unvetted into the country was treason. No border, no country.

If you think Trump is following the law I’ve got a bridge in Sedona I’d love to sell you. We are headed for anarchy with this President. Now go work for your constituents.

Trump has created disruption, but IMO DC and the US has been complacent far too long regarding foreign affairs and the purpose and scope of government. To allow the Feds to create 37 trillion in debt is anarchy IMO.

FYI I have been elected 4 times so I guess my voters already know how much work I do. When are you running?

If breaking the law is so important to you how do you worship a man twice impeached, one for INSURRECTION on January 6th, a man who pardons 1600 convicted felons who beat the crap out of police, who blames everyone else for his dirty deeds, who is a convicted felon, a “rapist” and who has sent his personal lawyer, he put in the DOJ, to make a deal with Maxwell who is also a liar. Trump will probably pardon a sex trafficker and pedophile for lying about his relationship with Epstine. Maxwell just got to go to a lower security prison which by all accounts has never happened with a sex offender. She was convicted and sent to prison for 20 years. Ya, Biden might now have been your cup of tea and wasn’t always mine but he was honorable and will go down in history as a patriot. Trump as a monster who drove democracy out of the USA with conspiracies and lies. Now leave me to enjoy my Sunday.

You begged for dialog and like most lefties. when losing, you want to run away. Intellectual cowardice.

I do not worship any man as that is idolatry. Stop projecting.

BTW, you broke the law as Trump was not convicted of rape and he successfully sued NBC for that false charge. Block me now and enjoy your TDS life.

"Don't bring a knife to a gunfight". A 32 count convicted financial fraud felon, using the presidency to enrich himself and favored royals, is doing his best to replace our democratic republic with an autocracy with him as dictator.

Heritage Foundation (founded in 1973 in opposition to Roe vs. Wade) SCOTUS judges have paved the way with "Citizens United" and "The President is above the law" for him to achieve his goal. The Heritage Foundation's Project 2025, which is all about replacing our liberal with an theocratically sanctioned illiberal democracy is becoming law.

After the Charlottesville White Nationalist riot The Economist found only one in five Americans pays attention to politics. My Cuban relatives lost everything, including their freedom, when Castro took over Cuba: I know how this can end.

MMC is our extremely successful gunfighter.

I subscribe to Arizona Agenda because I like the way you report what's going on here: But this is war. Truly evil people are throwing away the greatest legacy any nation ever received: We're not perfect but this nation is so rich poor people get fat.

My wife's family also escaped Castro's Cuba and sees DJT entirely differently. By Biden allowing 9 million or so undocumented and unvetted immigrants into the US we have allowed what Castro did to Cuba-that is ignore the letter of the law as his political agenda demanded. Biden was the dictator and he was repudiated.

Either we have a controlled border or we cannot not remain a free, lawful nation. There is no delta.

Going to try to play devil's advocate here. (sun devil’s advocate?)

I'm not seeing the smoking gun that Crow made the call here. He doesn't tell PBS "give Hobbs an inverview" he says "if you do, here's how it should go."

Or I'm wrong and this was a power-play from an Arizona power broker - maybe THE Arizona power broker. If a law was broken, punish accordingly. If a rule was broken, act accordingly. But if it's just a matter of "longstanding precedent" well Dems continue to cling to principles of tradition and pageantry to maintain

"balance" while Republicans at every level ignore tradition and stomp all over fairness. And they win and win and win.

So you say a breach of independence by PBS, I say they tried to maintain some fairness by platforming both candidates. Hobbs had the power to dodge the debate so to avoid portraying Lake as a political equal. PBS didn't de-platform Lake, they just gave Hobbs a voice too. And you say an overreach by Crow and ASU, but I see a public university and a public broadcaster fighting for public values against the threat of Lake and a far-right dismantling of their institutions. I guess I expect leaders to use every bit of power they have to fight back because right now that fight is being lost.

No dog photo here, only cats. With their own issues with excrement, albeit less public.

I appreciate your giving me that background about Crow & ASU. I had quit giving money to ASU's Cronkite School a few years ago because some changes seemed strange & explanations thin. Now I know I was not wrong! So I'm donating that money to my local community college & its NPR station. I still believe we need a variety of people in broadcast journalism.

The writer ought to look at the way Crow has bent the rules regarding what is taxable property. Specifically the State Farm building on campus land.

Michael Crow has bent the laws on property taxes at the ASU campus for many years. Check out the State Farm office at Marina Heights. The company has a 99 year lease and rents the building from the Board of Regents thereby avoiding commercial property taxes as the land\building is on ASU property. WTH?
