Two comments on your post on my culture war bills.

First, my bill does not prohibit school staff from calling a student by a pronoun or name not aligned with the student's assigned gender at birth. It only requires parental permission.

Second, my bathroom bill also includes school locker rooms and showers, where students are naked.

And now you know the "skinny" of the story.

But who are you defending Sen. Kavanaugh? Why do you give a hoot as to whether parents know their kids' pronouns? Usually culture wars hide and distract from something really important that the GOP is doing-- like supporting fascism.

Some transgender children may suffer from a medical condition known as gender dysphoria. Some people with gender dysphoria may experience depression and even suicidal thoughts. Parents should know if their children are transgendered because they may want to seek psychiatric care for them. Also, the children may be under medical care, and the provider may have instructed the parents not to use different pronouns. In such circumstances, using a non-aligned pronoun against medical advice could harm the child. I do not want to see children harmed.

AZ has so many important issues needing to addressed by the Az Legislature. Those you name not among them. Also, did you know that kids do and can see naked people often and easily? Have you heard of the internet? And, anyway, there is nothing wrong with the naked human body. We all have one.

1. This is one of the important issues.

2. Concerning kids already being able to see naked people, two wrongs do not make a right.

3. There is nothing wrong with the naked human body in the right venue. It is wrong in some places. Are you justifying exhibitionism? I think not.

Disagree with you in so many ways...as a health care professional I know you come at this issue the wrong way. You do, however, make me laugh.

Exhibitionism? I’m sorry but teenagers are self conscious enough. What you’re doing to, the very FEW teenagers that are trans, is saying that they are perverts. I don’t think that’s your intention, but that is how it feels. “If it quacks like a duck” Republicans won on demonizing transgenders. Can we please pass a budget and let Hobbs have her agency heads. Not doing those things is perverse.

Teenagers are self-conscious, which is an argument not to have people of the opposite assigned gender at birth standing next to each other in school showers. My bill would also protect the modesty of transgender students because it provides a single-use alternative for them.

The governor's refusal to meet with us has delayed the budget. Could you call her?

How many trans kids, k-6 and 7-12 are in the public school system? You make it sound like, trans girls still have boy urges. That they only changed sex because they want to go into women's locker rooms. It’s hard to think you believe that but that’s how it comes across. We need to show some kindness to these kids not demonize them. I can’t imagine what these families and especially the kids have gone through. Put some pressure on Jake Hoffman to approve some of Hobbs agency appointments and maybe she’ll talk to you. It’s petty and shows how adding an extraneous committee hurts the people of Arizona. I’ll call her office. I called Gress’s office a lot over passing the $ for families of disabled students.

I am not demonizing anyone, and I have never claimed trans kids are dangerous. It is simply a matter of modesty, and I believe trans kids would prefer my private facilities, especially showers, to what you promote.

Luckily, we get none of our money from the Trump administration.

Unfortunately, that means we need you to pay for this newsletter, please.

And if that isnt a cameo of DOGE i don't know what is. As we ALL get no money or services from the govt. ( which we have to pay taxes to regardless) we will have to pay for research on up and coming viruses etc., child care, health care, environmental quality, our retirement, etc out of our own pockets. What a deal. ( just joking--at least when we pay you we get great quality news reports in return!)

On Foxx-- i would love to know more about what she stands for as i have seen her and think highly of her. How would she govern? What is her position on Gaza, on AIPAC, on things that do NOT personally affect her ( as womens health care does). If she really is Arizona's AOC i am all in-- but common candidate training says to talk more about your origin than your policy prescriptions. We have more poor kids of farmworkers and poor kids who lived in gas stations in govt who do little to nothing for the poor or even for OTHER poor kids of farmworkers that that no longer qualifies a person for politics in my mind.

I'm a rural journalist covering politics, who back in the day covered national politics for the Oakland Tribune and others. I just want to comment on how lucky we are to have the Arizona Agenda to keep up with state politics. What a wonderful voice and insights.

I am tired of hearing about "culture wars". Kavanaugh is obsessed with this crap as are many other Republicans. Nobody can even define "woke". We are up to our necks with significant problems affecting us all and the GOP keeps yipping about bathroom etiquette. Keep some extra rolls in the cupboard and the door shut.

Kavanaugh's "bathroom thing" strikes me as more of what was called in the old days a "dirty old man" thing.

Kavanagh said this is "one of the important issues" in Arizona. But according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, gender dysphoria prevalence accounts for 0.005–0.014% of the population for biological males and 0.002–0.003% for biological females. Also, Trump wants to shut down the suicide and crisis hotline for LGBTQ people, so this, and pronouns are not "one of the important issues" for his favorite leader. I guess Arizona's budget, highways, homelessness, education, water etc. are not that important right now. Thanks for sharing what you stand for, John.
