Great Post! What I try to do at frankpierson.substack.com is examine our local experience in Oracle, AZ as it regularly intersects with your reporting. For example, that the water credit trading racket puts OUR water locally at risk. Robson rigs the water credit trade game to threaten Oracle's water...as SaddleBrooke Ranch population explodes.
Look at Gail Griffins face...that's a face that says "NO" to anything that makes sense. Especially if it has to do with our most precious resource. Our water.
Sorry to get on the hobby horse (love you guys), but you cannot negotiate in public. You write:
"So, are the states making any progress in negotiations? Nobody knows that either. That’s because it’s all happening behind closed doors"
and:
"We could go on and on about the need for more transparent communication about what’s actually happening at that negotiating table — and it’s essential — but there’s something deeper at work here."
Would having these folks mug for the cameras result in a *better* outcome? At the end, are we going to say, "Gosh, if only we'd had cameras in the room with blow-by-blow coverage."?
Designate a spox w/ occassional updates? Sure. Ok. But this kind of work *should* happen behind closed doors. We're not getting a better product with -- to use your phrase -- more transparent communication.

I laughed so hard at the Taiwanese guy running away with the bill. Can you imagine😂😂😂
Very informative in so many levels. Thanks for the hard work and including topics that matter.
